What is a Hackathon?
The name #HACK comes from the term “hackathon.” Hack + marathon = hackathon.
A hackathon is a hands-on event for creators, gamers, developers, engineers, designers, project managers and others to identify creative solutions for specific challenges faced in their community.

What is unique about the Indigitous #HACK?
The Indigitous #HACK gathers those with a desire to take the gospel to new people, places and spaces. As a volunteer lead event, #HACK offers participants an opportunity to meet the needs of the mission, the church and society on a local and global scale. We learn from one another, make new friends, and create Kingdom impact through an innovation sprint.

What happens at #HACK?
Exact schedules are coordinated by each location. For the duration of the event, usually a day or a weekend, participants come together to form teams and develop solutions to address specific challenges.
At #HACK we’ve seen mission-focused solutions to address specific challenges in response to questions like:
- Product development – how can we build or enhance a prototype that advances the message of the gospel? How can technology be used to bring the gospel in word and in deed to our communities?
- Media and content creation – how can we produce and curate content that points people to Jesus?
- Marketing and social media campaigns – how can we create a journey on a digital platform that helps someone discover Jesus or grow deeper in their faith?
- Digital outreach – how can we share the gospel using digital tools and platforms? How can we reach people in online communities and spaces?
-
Why should I join #HACK?
#HACK creates space to build, experiment and collaborate. It is an opportunity to create solutions that have a lasting impact, solve problems facing global and local communities, make new friends, and have fun while you are doing it.
In 2026, more than 3 billion people still don’t know or follow Jesus. These missional gaps* can only be closed through collaboration. #HACK is designed to bring together the body of Christ to harness the potential of this digital age to help more people discover Jesus.
* “Missional gaps” are identifiable communities and audiences that lack the critical mass of followers of Jesus to effectively reach their own community with the gospel. These gaps can include:
- Specific Locations: Neighborhoods, cities, or entire countries.
- Demographic Groups: Specific generations, people groups, or ethnolinguistic cultures.
- Digital Platforms: Online spaces such as gaming communities, social media groups, or the metaverse where there is no current ministry presence.

When and where is the event?
For more than 10 years, Indigitous has hosted an official launch in October to build momentum around the world. However, local organizers (whom we call “Champions”) can determine the best time to host #HACK.
-
Who is #HACK for?
#HACK creates space to build, experiment and collaborate. At #HACK you will find followers of Jesus from all walks of life: students, marketplace professionals, pastors, ministry leaders and anyone who is passionate about missions in a digital age. Also an outreach event, #HACK is open to those exploring their faith.
It’s a beautiful picture of “there is one body, but it has many parts.” (1 Corinthians 12:12-27)

How do I join #HACK?
You can bring #HACK to your city by organizing one yourself or you can join an existing #HACK event by reaching out to a local champion. Whether you want to join or organize, visit hack.indigitous.org for more information or send an email to hack@indigitous.org.

What happens after #HACK?
Each #HACK will work on a challenge or challenges determined by their local host. Participants and hosts only commit to working on these challenges during the #HACK, but some groups have chosen to continue working on their project beyond the #HACK for further impact.
Indigitous also shares ways to stay connected and continue pursuing missions in a digital age should Champions or participants desire to do so after attending #HACK.
-
How much does registration cost for #HACK?
The cost for registration varies and is determined by the location.
-
Do #HACK hosts receive support during the hackathon?
Absolutely. Our global team provides materials to Champions (hosts) as they plan their #HACK as well as group and individual calls for support. We will be available virtually to help you with preparation before and during the event.
