  • What is a Hackathon?

    A combination of the words “hack” and marathon a hackathon is an event with a specific focus during which people in the tech and adjacent industries collaborate to create solutions to specific challenges. This hands-on event is for computer programmers, developers, engineers, user experience specialists, project managers and others. People with technical backgrounds come together, form teams around a problem or idea, and collaboratively develop a unique solution.

  • What is unique about the Indigitous #HACK?

    The Indigitous #HACK gathers those with a desire to take the gospel to new people, places and spaces. As a volunteer lead event, #HACK offers participants an opportunity to meet the needs of the mission, the church and society on a local and global scale. We learn from one another, make new friends, and create Kingdom impact through an innovation sprint.

  • What happens at #HACK?

    Exact schedules are coordinated by each location. Typically, during the event, a number of different local and global challenges are shared, teams are formed and they work to create a unique solution.

  • Why join #HACK?

    #HACK is an opportunity to create solutions that have a lasting impact, solve problems facing global and local communities, make new friends, and have fun while you are doing it.

  • When and where is the event?

    #HACK is a series of events locally hosted around the world in the month of October.

  • What is a mass collaboration?

    Mass collaboration is a form of a collective action where large numbers of people, who may have no previous connection, effectively and creatively work towards a common goal. The greater diversity of skill represented on each team, the higher the team’s capacity to successfully tackle the task at hand. #HACK levels mass collaboration on a global scale, connecting like-minded believers across every region of the world through expertise and prayer.

  • How much registration for #HACK?

    The cost for registration varies and is determined by the location.

  • Is #HACK only for people who can code?

    #HACK welcomes anyone who wants to collaborate on mission-focused, technology projects with long-term impact. While our work focuses on multiple technology platforms, you don’t have to be a programmer to get involved. We need designers, photographers, writers, project managers, social media gurus – creative thinkers of all types! The most important skill is the ability to work as a team and find ways to problem-solve. Also, while Indigitous #HACK is explicitly Christian, participants from any (or no) faith background are welcomed warmly.

  • Are there any costs involved for partnering organizations?

    No, beyond preparing the appropriate material/resources for those who want to work on your project or challenge.

  • What types of challenges/requests do you accept?

    Those that require a technical, digital, UX/UI, data analysis, or communications solution that doesn’t currently exist.

  • About how many hours of work will be accomplished during the #HACK?

    Between 10-30 hours, depending on the specific schedule of the #HACK location.

  • Who will work on our challenge?

    We will offer your challenge to our #HACK locations for participants to choose if they wish and possess the skills needed.

  • Will a finished product be completed during #HACK?

    #HACK is a weekend innovation sprint and the completion rate depends on the proposed challenge.

  • What happens after #HACK?

    Depending on the individual teams and partnering organizations further collaboration, internships or paid work can be initiated.

  • Will we get any support during the hackathon?

    Absolutely. Our global team will be available to help you with preparation beforehand and during the event.
